The green credentials and financial benefits of Volvo's Euro 5 have been praised by Hull-based road transport firm Cool Solutions.
According to the company, Volvo has come a long way in terms of being environmentally-friendly and has taken steps to make its trucks as green as possible.
Cool Solutions' director Trevor Underwood said that the 0.5mpg average increase in fuel economy not only benefits the environment but is also saving his firm money.
Mr Underwood added that as fuel expenditure accounts for a third of the firm's running costs this is a big advantage.
"The cost on trucks is lower not just initially," added the trucking expert, "We weighed our options, took a leap of faith on price and support and found it paid off."
It seems that green technology is becoming increasingly popular; earlier this month it was revealed that the environmentally-friendly Toyota Prius has attracted thousands of orders upon its release.
The new T3 version of the car is being billed as the world's greenest family car, emitting 89 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
Running on a hybrid powertrain, the car has attracted more than 2,000 advance orders with ten per cent of these placed through the government's scrappage scheme.
