Volkswagen has announced a new version of its popular Golf model that could appeal to
eco car insurance policyholders with its environmental conscience.
The new BlueMotion model, the Golf Plus, combines practicality with comfort and offers enhanced fuel economy while reducing emissions.
Carbon output has been cut to 114 grams per kilometre, with the model capable of achieving 65.7 miles to the gallon.
The Bluemotion will set buyers back of premium of £325 over the standard Golf model at a cost of between £17,570 and £18,920.
Compared with the previous model, the car returns an 11 per cent improvement in fuel economy and CO2 emissions enhanced by ten per cent.
A number of changes have been to the car to allow it to achieve the improved results. Among the modifications include revised gear ratios, a start/stop function, regenerative braking and the addition of low rolling resistance tyres.
"The car's economy statistics mean, in real terms, that a Golf Plus BlueMotion owner could take a trip from London to the Lake District, enjoy 200 miles-worth of day trips while there, and return to London before having to refuel," Volkswagen commented.
"Put another way, a buyer covering under 8,000 miles a year - which is typical of more than a half of Golf Plus customers - need only fill up with fuel once every five weeks."
The model is available in a number of trim levels, with the standard version offering features such as six airbags, air conditioning and a CD player.
Volkswagen also recently announced prices for its more efficient new Polo, which will go on sale next month.
