After years of being warned of the perils of carbon-bingeing it seems consumers are finally taking heed of environmentalists' advice.
A new poll by Angus Reid Strategies has found that most people in Canada, along with many in the US and Britain, would now take a green car over a dream one.
In Canada there is the highest percentage of those with green credentials high on their list of priorities, with 53 per cent choosing a low carbon footprint over a flash motor, reports NorthumberlandView.ca.
Meanwhile, in the US the figure is 48 per cent, while 44 per cent of Brits are ready to give up on their dreams of owning a carbon-guzzling dream motor.
However, it is the over 55s who seem to have taken the message to heart with 55 per cent agreeing to swap dream for green in Canada, 54 per cent making the commitment in the US and 50 per cent in the UK.
The younger population favoured government action: 55 per cent of 18 to 34-year-old in Canada wished ministers would legislate in favour of alternative fuels, followed by 50 per cent of Americans and 42 per cent of Brits, in this age bracket.
Meanwhile, Volvo has been expanding its green operations this month by test driving rape seed in its vehicles in a bid to reduce carbon emissions at Volvo Logistics.
