Vehicle manufacturer Kia is set to unveil a hybrid model to
eco car insurance policyholders attending this year's Frankfurt Motor Show.
The firm is transporting a Forte LPI Hybrid to Europe for the first time to illustrate its research plans for next year.
Kia will undertake an operation in which 36 of the vehicles will be tested on the continent to assess the feasibility of large scale commercialisation of LPI hybrids.
Currently, the C-segment car is on sale in Korea, powered by a 1.6-litre engine capable of producing 114 ps. While it runs on liquid petroleum gas, the vehicle is also fitted with a hybrid powertrain with an electric motor.
The model also benefits from regenerative braking that recharges the power pack and boasts reduced aerodynamic drag to achieve 50.4 miles to the gallon and 99 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
Also at the show, Kia will introduce its sub-brand EcoDynamics. The name will be applied to the firm's most eco-friendly models within each range as Kia introduces environment-saving technology into the cars.
The EcoDynamics vehicles on show at the event will already have been fitted with special technology that automatically shuts off and the restarts the engine when it moves from stationary in congestion.
Among the other features will be a gear-shift up/down indicator to encourage an economical driving style, a power-saving alternator management system and low rolling resistance Michelin tyres - all of which could help
eco car insurance policyholders become greener drivers.
The Frankfurt show will run between September 15th and 27th, opening to the public on the 17th.
