Two new eco cars set for launch

09 September 2009

Electric car company Reva is preparing to unveil two new models at this year's Frankfurt International Motor Show.

Eco car insurance policyholders, who need their vehicle for the school run, may be interested in the Reva NXR, a four-seat, three-door family hatchback car, due to begin production early next year.

Those looking for something a little racier, meanwhile, could stop by for a look at the firm's show model, the NXG on September 16th.

A sporty two-seater with a semi-convertible roof, the car was designed by Dilip Chhabria of automotive design agency DC Design.

Both cars feature the manufacturer's new REVive technology, which is said to address "range anxiety" by acting like an extra fuel tank.

If the driver runs out of battery power, they simply need to telephone or text Reva and an instant remote recharge will be activated.

Further details and pricing arrangements will be revealed at the show, says Reva.

Customers can, however, make sure they are at the top of the priority list for the new cars by visiting the firm's new website, Revaglobal.com.

Backed by US investors Global Environment Fund and Draper Fisher Jurvetson, the manufacturer is now selling or being test marketed in 24 countries worldwide.

Meanwhile, a more established name in the eco car industry, Toyota, has released its latest sustainability report.

The company claims to have reduced carbon emissions from its manufacturing plants by around 17 per cent in the last year.
