The Japanese factory that manufactures the eco-friendly Toyota Prius hybrid has itself been highlighted as a green location.
According to Toyota, the Tsutsumi uses a number of methods designed to cut down on damaging emissions. These include energy-saving lighting, a system that cuts electricity when the plant is not operational and sunlight ducts that allow more natural light to enter the factory.
The manufacturer states that the plant does not produce any landfill site-destined waste and is targeting the same zero per cent record for incinerated waste.
However, the site's green attributes do not end there. Tsutsumi seeks to generate its own power through its 50,000 sq m solar panelling which produce 2,000kW of energy each hour.
The shell of the plant is also covered with photovoltaic paint. Once sunlight hits the surface, the paint helps to release oxygen into the atmosphere. Toyota states this benefits the environment by helping to break down unwanted levels of nitrogen oxides.
Although an example of eco-friendly practices, the plant is not the only one of its kind.
