Environmentally-concerned motorists have been advised to buy an Audi, as the luxury vehicle manufacturer has scooped a top award for its green credentials.
The Audi A8 2.8 FSI defended its title as the Green Luxury Car of the Year title at the What Car? Green Awards, green
car insurance customers may be interested to know.
What Car? Revealed it was impressed with the aluminium-bodied car's CO2 emissions of less than 200g/km and its ability to manage 34.0mpg on average.
The test team said: "These are produced by a smooth V6 petrol engine, too, so if you're swinging by the school to pickup the children, you don't have to worry about any of those nasty particulates blowing into the playground."
Consumers were advised that these factors mean they are exempt from the three per cent company car tax penalty levied on diesel engines.
Auto Express recently gave the car a four-star review describing the vehicles as a "big limousine", which is smooth at constant revs and boasts excellent green credentials.
The What Car? Green Awards also praised the Toyota Prius, which was given the WhatGreenCar Car of the Year 2009 prize, after being chosen from a shortlist of ten vehicles.
Dr Ben Lane, the managing editor of WhatGreenCar, said that while the judges had been "rightly impressed" with the range of green car technologies presented by the ten shortlisted vehicles, but had been "unanimous in their acclaim" for the Prius.
