What does carbon offsetting mean?
Most scientific evidence indicates that Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions caused by human activity are negatively affecting the global climate. Cars are a major producer of these types of emissions.
Carbon offsetting is a way of compensating for the CO2 emissions you produce with an equivalent CO2 saving.
Why is carbon offsetting important to me?
ibuyeco believe that the environment is important to all of us. You are investing in the future by taking action now and doing your part to balance the world's CO2 emissions.
So how does offsetting link to my car insurance?
Offsetting the amount of CO2 your car emits is a good way to balance the impact your driving is having on the environment. The information you give us to produce a car insurance quote also enables us to calculate your CO2 emissions - so you get a great quote and simple way to help the environment!
The money you pay to offset the CO2 emissions produced by your annual driving goes to purchase carbon credits from a portfolio of projects.
Where we offset your car's CO2?
- Renewable energy - Reducing carbon emissions by making use of wind and hydro energy to replace power generation through fossil fuels. For example, we're currently supporting projects to build wind turbines in both India and Inner Mongolia.
- Methane capture - Methane is a very potent greenhouse gas, each tonne released into the atmosphere has the same effect as 21 tonnes of CO2! The projects we support collect the gases escaping from landfill sites and destroy them to reduce their negative impact on the atmosphere.
