Greener driving tips

Check your tyre pressure
By making sure your tyres are at the correct pressure you could save fuel and reduce your CO2 emissions. Under inflated tyres create more resistance on the road so your engine uses more power to get around. Having the right pressure in your tyres will mean they last longer too.

Clear out the junk
How much stuff do you have in your boot that you haven’t used in ages? Have a clear out and reduce the weight of your car. The lighter your car, the less fuel you’ll use and the better for everyone – simple.

Get a regular service
Maintain the performance and fuel consumption of your car by ensuring it is regularly serviced. It makes sense, really. The better your car runs, the more efficient it is.

Reduce your speed
It might take a little longer to get there, but driving a little bit slower could save you gallons of fuel. Driving at 70mph uses around 9% more fuel than at 60mph and up to 15% more fuel than at 50mph to cover the same distance.

Less revs
The less revs the more efficient your car is, so pull away gently and try to change up gear a little earlier than usual. If you drive a diesel car, try changing up when the rev counter reaches 2000rpm or at 2500rpm for a petrol car.

Leave the car at home
When you don’t really need to take the car, why not leave it at home? If you live less than 2 miles from work, take a stroll in. It should only take around half an hour and will save a lot of fuel each week. Or if you’re not up for walking, think about cycling, catching the bus or even car sharing with a workmate.
