we're helping... Borneo Orangutan Survival

Borneo Orangutan Survival is the largest primate rescue project in the world with nearly 1000 orangutans in its care. They are responsible for the rescue and rehabilitation of wild and orphaned orangutans who have been displaced by the destruction of their rainforest home for palm oil production or rescued from the illegal pet trade.

In 2006, generous donation from the viewers who watched the BBC’s Orangutan Diaries rescued the Nyaru Menteng Sanctuary from the brink of closure. Two years later, the BBC returned to see how the sanctuary was doing, and was shocked to find it struggling to cope with almost twice as many orangutans. Fully grown males like Hercules – pictured – and mother with babies are ready to discover true freedom again, but funds are desperately need to secure the land needed to safely release them and create space at the sanctuary to help other orangutans in dire need.

Borneo Orangutan Survival rely entirely on donation to continue their work. By helping them save our red-haired cousins, you are helping them save the rainforests of Indonesia, one of the most bio-diverse resources on the planet, and the lungs of our world.
